Introduction to Infotrac
This introductory session will provide hands-on practice with two of the InfoTrac Web databases available to all SJVLS members: General Reference Center Gold and Health Reference Center. The purpose of the workshop is to introduce SJVLS staff to some of the basic features of InfoTrac to help them begin to feel more confident using this tool to locate relevant information for their patrons or to assist patrons with using the database themselves. At the end of the workshop, users will know:
- How to navigate in the database using InfoTrac’s menu bar
- The difference between the Subject, Relevance and Keyword search options
- How to limit the search by full text, date and publication
- The difference between citation, abstract and full-text results
- How to keep track of the articles they may want to keep
- How to print, email or save records
- How to find related topics for their search
The length of the workshop is typically three hours, but it can be tailored to meet your library's needs. Handouts for the workshop include a 12-page booklet which mirrors the course content, as well as an InfoTrac Frequently Asked Questions. Both of these documents are included here and may be helpful even if you have not attended the workshop.
