2. Current Technology Overview
SJVLS currently provides the following technology-related services:
- WAN connections between 94 fixed library sites and Fresno
- Connection to the Internet
- Firewall , DNS, web site hosting
- IOLS including WebPAC, and e-mail server, Remote Patron Authentication server, Bibliostat (statistical program) server, Telecirc II server for automated phone notification of patrons.
- group purchasing of PC hardware, software and online databases
- IP-based video conferencing
- access database for technology inventory control
- wireless bookmobile connectivity (in testing phase)
- Interlibrary loan system server (installation in progress)
Strategic Goal #1: To promote resource sharing among SJVLS libraries, other libraries in the region and libraries participating in the Library of California.
Strategic Goal #2: To promote a minimum standard of public service at all library branches in the SJVLS.
Strategic Goal #3: To facilitate services to underserved library users
Strategic Goal #4: Improve communication and collaboration among SJVLS members, SJVIS, and SJVLS Automation Office.
