Automation Committee
January 27, 1999


Present:  Kay Anthony, Laura Gardner, Ivan Edelman, Camille Turner, Carolyn

1.        The meeting was called to order by Mary Ellen Huls who was presiding 
in place of John Kallenberg who was out of town.   New SJVLS staff member David 
Rodriguez was introduced.

2. Projects for Discussion and Action

a.   PAC4Windows - Mary Ellen distributed the documentation notebooks for PAC 
for Windows. She has configured PAC4WIN for Fresno County Gates Grant libraries.  
A "cheat sheet" for setting up PAC4Windows should be out soon.


b.  WebPac - WebPAC is installed and running on the NetConnect server.  Separate 
servers have been set up for each System member except Mariposa.  Links to the 
servers can be found on the SJVLS Home Page.  The Reference Committee has been 
asked to give input into the format of WebPAC before it is released for public 
use.

c.  PC Order - The request for a quote to order PCs from DELL has been sent to 
Fresno County Computer Services.

d.  Telecommunications Upgrades/Comparisons - Keith reviewed the planned 
upgrades to the SJVLS network to replace knowledge network lines and to upgrade 
some sites.  Staff at member libraries may be asked to plug in equipment of flip 
DIP switches.

3. Report on Videoconferencing Project - Ivan reported that the RFP for the 
video conferencing grant consultant has been sent out.

4.    Status Reports Related to Projects with Other Committees

a.  Cataloging Committee -  No representative present. Mary Ellen noted that the 
call number index will be rebuilt after information has been received from 
system members on agencies and ITYPES to include in the index.

b.  Reference Committee - No representative present.

c.  Circulation Committee Issues -  No representative.  Committee has not met.

5. Other -  Kern reiterated the need to get ENS rental books problem fixed.  
Those going to 
      CODI will meet after the meeting to coordinate travel plans.

6.   Announcements - Next meeting February 24th in Visalia.
